We are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Consultant for our claims and risk management department. The WC Consultant acts as a client advocate, offering value-added claims service. In this role, the WC Consultant will work with both agency clients and insurance adjusters on workers' compensation claims.
Acts as a client advocate at all times
Conducts claims reviews with agency clients and insurance adjusters on workers' compensation claims.
Claim reviews include: status reports on open claims, review the appropriateness of claim reserves, discuss and analyze claim-related issues and input from adjusters, and address client's questions and concerns. Clearly communicate claim status to client verbally and in writing
Assists clients with workers' compensation related issues, such as employer-directed medical care, claim reporting and return-to-work programs.
Continuously update claim review schedule
Facilitates settlement of large, complex claims by assisting client in investigating and negotiating with carrier
Reviews coverage disputes to ensure clients are receiving equitable consideration
Works closely with the Loss Control department and Account Executives in the development of new business and retention of existing clients, including participation in sales presentations
Maintains a working knowledge of the workers' compensation experience modification factor. Understands and can explain the impact of workers' compensation claims on the experience modification factor. Uses ModMaster (or similar) software to illustrate the impact of specific claims on the experience modification factor and to project future experience modification factors
Follows after-hour and emergency claims procedures
Pursues a program of personal and professional development as approved
College degree or equivalent training and/or experience
3 or more years workers' compensation claims experience
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Strong organizational skills
Technical knowledge of commercial insurance a plus
Ability to accomplish the described duties through the use of appropriate computer and general office equipment
Valid Iowa Driver's License and acceptable driving record
