Equipment maintenance important for healthcare providers

10/3/2017

There are many reasons why it’s important for health care providers to pay close attention to the management of their equipment. Because medical equipment plays a key role in diagnosing and treating patients, regular equipment maintenance is a must for keeping patients safe and comfortable.

Having equipment malfunction unexpectedly isn’t just inconvenient, it can affect patient safety. An equipment maintenance program includes procedures for inspection, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure that equipment is safe to use and is providing accurate results. When medical equipment is routinely inspected, potential issues can be identified and resolved prior to equipment failure.
In addition to patient care, how you’re maintaining your equipment may be unnecessarily costly. It is important to remember that the goal of choosing a service plan is to choose the one that will ensure the highest level of equipment uptime and reliability at the appropriate cost.

With the right protection for your equipment and appropriate levels of coverage, you can significantly improve the financial return on capital, lower operating costs, and improve quality of care. An equipment maintenance program that provides scheduled inspections and servicing helps to save time and money throughout the life of the equipment:
  • savings on costly repairs associated with a complete breakdown of equipment
  • reduced or eliminated downtime due to loss of equipment during repair
  • increased reliability to consistently provide services to patients
  • longer life of equipment and increased ROI as a result

Inadequate equipment maintenance can lead to increased equipment downtime, frequent service events, and premature equipment replacement. Contact a member of LMC's healthcare team to learn how a comprehensive equipment repair and maintenance program can result in significant savings, increased efficiencies, and improved management control.
